Our tradition

A house of living faith, deep roots and a generous outlook on the world.

An Umbanda temple in Melbourne committed to ancestry, Afro-Brazilian traditions, the worship of the Orixás and community life.

Our house

Where axé pulses.

Casa de Axé Águas de Oxum was born from a desire to cultivate spiritual freedom with respect, truth and welcome.

We are proud of Umbanda’s African roots and are committed to keeping this heritage alive, practising and honouring it through our gestures, rites and choices. We place conduct above dogma, nature as a foundation and ancestral wisdom as our beacon.

The axé we live is not contained within ritual: it flows into everyday life, transforms relationships and renews paths. Here, help does not come with judgement, and empathy is not a promise - it is a daily practice. We celebrate life in all its forms, recognising the beauty of the differences that make us unique.

We follow a collective and imperfect path, deeply committed to ethics, respect and love.

We are a place of connection.

With one another. With ourselves. With divine nature.

Mãe Flávia, Ìyá Ifá Ṣola, leader of Casa de Axé Águas de Oxum

Who leads our house

Mãe Flávia
Ìyá Ifá Ṣola

With more than 16 years on her path in Umbanda, her journey began in her youth at Templo de Umbanda Águas de Iemanjá, under the guidance of Mãe Danielle - where she established her grounding and knowledge.

Guided by the Orixás and her spiritual entities, she lived through intense and formative experiences that shaped her listening, insight and firmness in axé.

Part of the Oduduwa family, initiated into the worship of Ifá and other traditions, and a priestess of the Nhadukessaba clan, she brings together the wisdom of different spiritual paths. She leads with reverence for sacred nature, ancestral wisdom and Ori.

Being a woman, a mother and a mãe de santo are intertwined in her mission. From an early age, guides and oracles announced that she would open her own house of axé - no one imagined it would be on the other side of the world.

“May this house always be fertile soil, where Good grows, blossoms and offers the world abundant fruit.”

Our pillars

Nature

Nature is the sacred whole we worship. In it, we recognise the presence and power of the Orixás, expressed through its elements, phenomena and movements. To revere nature is to recognise the sacred around us and within us.

Ancestry

We honour our blood and spiritual ancestry and revere the legacy of the elders who opened paths. Everything we are carries the inheritance of those who came before us. Recognising this inheritance means understanding that we do not walk alone and that we are responsible for what we choose to pass on.

Ori

Ori is the sacred principle of consciousness, identity and destiny. It is the divine and singular presence guiding each person through their journey, choices and relationship with the world. In our foundation, Ori is the first Orixá to be greeted and recognised above all. Caring for Ori means cultivating alignment, responsibility and respect for one’s own path.

Our Manifesto

Deep roots from which to grow towards the sun.

Our Manifesto is the soul and compass of our house, bringing together the principles that guide our relationship with freedom, nature, ancestors, Ori and community.
